Automatic Ontology Learning and Data Reasoning in Web Mining

DP0556455 (2005-2008)

PROJECT SUMMARY: Web mining is used to search useful and interesting data from the Web. It is particularly difficult since user profiles contain uncertainties and are changeable. Data mining techniques have been used for Web mining. However, the procedure of mining takes a lot of time. This research aims to develop a new methodology for Web mining, which uses two phases: filtering and sophisticated data processing. It also provides new techniques for fundamental issues by combining data mining and data reasoning. The innovation is that the discovered knowledge is directly represented as ontology and is used by data reasoning models to answer what users want. The success of the project will be significant for the new generation of Web mining systems.

Personalized Ontology Learning and Mining for Web Information Gathering

DP0988007 (2009-2011)

PROJECT SUMMARY: Personalisation is a significant problem in Web search. Studies have illustrated that more than 80% of users preferred personalized search results. The essential research issue for personalisation is to acquire user information needs efficiently and effectively. The existing techniques (relevant feedback and implicit feedback) are either expensive in acquisition or inaccurate in description. The aim of this project is to develop an innovative approach, an ontology-based technique, to balance these two techniques. It will make significant contributions for ontology learning and mining and establish a sound foundation for Web Intelligence in designing Web-based personalisation systems.
